Southern Apple Cider Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ¼ cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup apple juice
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ⅓ cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha chili sauce (more if you want it spicy)
  • ⅛ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon regular mustard
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder
Directions
  1. In a saucepan, heat up the butter.  Add in the onions and garlic.  Cook over medium heat until tender.
  2. Whisk together the remaining ingredients.
  3. Add to the onions and garlic.  Whisk to blend.
  4. Bring to a boil then simmer for 30 minutes to blend the flavors together.
  5. If not using right away, let cool and then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  6. Makes 1 pint.
